Ransomware Attacks and How to Prevent Them Cyber attack is now something that we can all anticipate, yet we do expect them to attack us through the backdoor in a way which is covert and hidden. What we don’t realize is that in cyber space, people can always find other ways to do mischief. While the victim is busy looking over his shoulder, the attacker may just run up and whack him over the head. Ransomware is all about direct attack. It is not like a stealth attack where the victim is extorted via logged keystrokes that capture passwords, account numbers, and other personal financial information without their knowledge. Ransomware is more direct. In this attack, the perpetrators use malicious codes to hijack the victim’s computer files and they are encrypted so that the user is unable to read them and thus render them useless. This way, then can demand a ransom by asking for payment of an online transactions that will enable the user to get the decryption password. Although ransomware has not been a very widespread issue, hackers and users both become more sophisticated. It may be used to blindside more and more people who are only worried about phishing or keyloggers. Whatever technique you use without scammers will work with ransomware attackers too, and this is a good thing to know. Below are some tips to ward off ransomware from your computer.

If you want to download games, files, or software, make sure that the site you are downloading them from is a reputable site and not an unknown source. Antivirus, anti spyware software, and ransomware blockers must be installed and updated daily. You should always turn on your firewall and pop up blockers. Update all your browsers and system software regularly. All system files and computer files may be backed up on a separate machine, online, or on disk, so that the hard drive can be wiped off if necessary without sacrificing important files or programs. Some people panic and instinctively hand over the payment, when faced with the loss of computer data. However, many may find that they paid for no reason at all. The truth is, not all ransomeware programs are destructive. It merely relies on empty threats to extract payment. Pornographic pop up’s are used by these attackers which they activate on a user’s computer and then they threaten to destroy files every 30 minutes until the user pays a certain amount in return for the unlock code. But, this program does not have the ability to delete or encrypt files. It only relies on the user’s need for a fast, cheap fix to what is essentially not a real problem.
